Is self-testing for me?

You will be required to complete a short health questionnaire; this will ensure you are guided to your recommended service option. Self-testing kits are NOT recommended if you have any symptoms of a sexually transmitted infection. If you have any symptoms, you can book an appointment by calling 0845 111 3456 or attend the walk-in and wait service.

Information about the infections

Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea

Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea are sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that are found in the semen and vaginal fluid of people who have them. They are easily passed on through any sex when a condom is not used. Chlamydia is one of the most common STIs in the UK and in West Sussex. Many people have no symptoms.  So without a test, you won’t know anything is wrong. If left untreated, these infections can cause complications including pelvic infection, infertility and infection of the testicles (epididymo-orchitis)

Syphilis and HIV

Syphilis is a bacterial infection that can be spread through sexual contact, including oral sex and is treated with antibiotics. Left untreated it can, over time, have potentially serious health implications.

HIV is a viral infection which can be transmitted through sex, blood and during childbirth and breast feeding. Most people will have no obvious symptoms of HIV infection however if HIV is not treated there are serious consequences for your future health. Treatment is now very effective and there are many advantages to testing and starting treatment early.
