Genital warts
Genital warts are caused by an infection with a virus called Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). They are easily transmitted through sexual contact and therefore very common. They are relatively harmless and contrary to popular belief do not cause cancer. There are a number of different treatments available.
Symptoms
You may notice small lumps on the genital skin, occasionally these can feel itchy. Not all individuals who are exposed to the virus will develop warts and therefore your sexual partner may have no symptoms at all.
Testing
We diagnose warts by visual examination only. There is no test for the wart virus available in clinic.
