When was the last time you had unprotected sex/sex without a condom?*

If you have had unprotected sex (without a condom) in the last 2 weeks, the test for Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea may not detect the infection if you have it. We would suggest that you wait for 2 weeks from your last unprotected sex to take a test.

HIV may not show up in the test until 4 weeks after a person has been infected, and syphilis may not show up for 12 weeks. We would suggest that you repeat the tests for HIV and Syphilis 4 weeks and 12 weeks respectively after your last unprotected sex if you are concerned. In the meantime you should use condoms.

If you are not using any other form of contraception you may be at risk of pregnancy. Emergency contraception can be used to reduce the risk of unwanted pregnancy. If the unprotected sex was up to 72 hours ago, emergency contraception pills can be accessed from pharmacies, your GP and Sexual Health Services. If the unprotected sex was up to 120 hours ago, you can access emergency contraception pills from your GP or sexual health services, or you could have an IUD (coil) fitted in sexual health services and some GPs.
